Chamblee Dunwoody Kitchen and Laundry

This project was completed in collaboration with Mosaic Design + Build. The clients sought to remodel their home with a focus on the kitchen and laundry room. A primary goal was to remove the wall between the kitchen and living room to create a more open, connected space. The kitchen layout was reconfigured to extend perimeter countertop space, while the laundry room was expanded to accommodate additional cabinetry. A functional drop zone was also introduced at the primary entry—the back door—to improve daily organization.

A key design objective was to incorporate color in a way that enhances natural light, creating a fresh, clean aesthetic. The remodel prioritized increased usable space and the integration of accessible, efficient, and ergonomic storage solutions tailored to the clients’ differing height needs.

During construction, design challenges arose with the integration of two new LVL beams and structural posts. In response, the drop zone pantry was reconfigured to work within these constraints while maximizing storage. One beam was flush-mounted into the ceiling, and the remaining dropped beam was detailed with decorative trim to create a cohesive, intentional look—allowing the new cased opening to feel original to the home.
